The Power of Professional Dating Profile Pictures (for both the client and the photographer): From Swiping Right to "I Now Pronounce You…"

The benefits for wedding photographers providing dating app photography services and the relationship building benefits for both the client and photographer.

Online dating is the epitome of the value of the internet. It’s all in how you use it and your goals/motives. Use it it for selfish and negative reasons, it’s going to be an energy suck and backfire. Use it in intelligent ways and watch the magic unravel. Hopefully it’s the latter. Online or in person, first impressions count. Online, you’ve got milliseconds to capture someone's attention as they swipe through a sea of profiles. So, is it smart to invest in professional pictures for your dating apps to stand out? Absolutely.

Yes, this is the elephant in the room. It’s a white room with a minimalist aesthetic :)

Let's address the elephant in the room: the fear of judgment. You might worry that people (friends and/or dating app users) might think you're vain or superficial for hiring a professional photographer for your dating profile. But here's the truth: everyone wants to put their best foot forward.

Dating profile photos don't have to be glossy, over-airbrushed glam shots. Authenticity is key. A good photographer will capture your personality, your essence, without making you look like a bad advertisement. They'll highlight your best features and bring out your natural charm. The pics will look much less like a glamour shoot and more like you have a friend who happens to have a nice camera and a good eye took some pics of you. That it the finesses of doing dating profile portraits the right way.

I’ll paint you a picture: when you're scrolling through dating profiles, what catches your eye? Grainy selfies taken in a public bathroom mirror (classy), or crisp, well-lit photos that showcase someone's personality? Exactly. Investing in professional pictures sets you apart from the crowd and shows that you're serious about finding a connection. It’s exactly like hiring a professional to help trick out your resume.

It's not just about impressing potential dates. It's about feeling confident in yourself. When you look good, you feel good. And that confidence comes through in your interactions, both online and offline. Let go of what people might think of you. It’s always easy to judge, but harder to be brave and actually put yourself out there. While you're busy finding your ideal partner to make a life with, they can throw a judgment party! Speaking of finding an ideal partner, I now want to talk about the value of wedding photographers providing dating profile photography (for both the client and the photographer).

Picture Perfect Partnerships: Life Long Friends - WIN WIN

Now, let's flip the script and address wedding photographers: is it smart to offer dating profile photography sessions? Absolutely, unequivocally, yes.

Your wedding clients aren't just looking for someone to document their big day. They're looking for a partner, a confidant, someone who understands them and their vision. By offering dating profile photography sessions, you're showing that you're invested in their journey from the very beginning.

But won't it muddy the waters for your brand? Not at all. In fact, it strengthens it. Your clients aren't just clients—they're potential future proposals, engagement sessions, weddings, anniversaries, maternity shoots, vow renewals…You see where I’m going. By offering a full suite of services, you're positioning yourself as their go-to photographer for life's most important moments. Nobody wants to change mechanics every time their car needs a repair. I love my mechanic. I don’t need to worry about my car with my mechanic. So make your clients feel great, give them extra value and take amazing pictures for them. It will benefit both of you for years to come.

And truly,  it's not just about business. It's about connection. When you connect with your clients on a personal level, when you go above and beyond to ensure they feel heard and valued, they'll want to keep working with you. They'll become not just clients, but friends.

Don’t forget about referrals. When your clients' single friends see their stunning dating profile pictures, they'll want to know who took them. And who better to recommend than the person who captured their love story from the very beginning?

So, to all the wedding photographers out there: embrace the opportunity to offer dating profile photography sessions. It's a win-win for both you and your clients. After all, love doesn't just happen on wedding days—it happens in every moment, big and small. And who better to capture those moments than you?

Innovative Blooms: Chicago’s Romee Willow Florals Reveals Wedding Floral Trends for 2024 - Guest Author

Guest blog: Chicago’s Romee Willow Florals Reveals Wedding Floral Trends for 2024

Jeremy Glickstein Photography is thrilled to feature this guest post by this highly sought after, Chicago based floral design studio. Owner & lead designer, Jori Foreman’s unique & often unconventional design aesthetic caught our eyes many years ago & has wowed us ever since. It’s no wonder that they have over 200, five-star online reviews. We are honored to have our favorite floral wedding designer share her expertise & insights with our audience.

Wedding Trends to Watch in 2024

We’re Romee Willow Florals, a wedding and event florist based in Logan Square, Chicago. We specialize in artful, eco-friendly floral design for events all around Chicagoland. We've been in the wedding business for over a decade now, and we’ve noticed that every wedding season comes with its own unique trends. Some trends stick around longer than others, and some leave as quickly as they arrived. When planning their wedding, couples need to decide if they are going for a more classic or trendy look. Some trends can be woven throughout a classic wedding, as well! Let’s take a closer look at wedding trends we are already seeing incorporated for 2024:

1) Deconstructed arch as the ceremony backdrop. Wedding ceremony decor is kind of a big deal, because many times it is the most photographed aspect of the entire day. In addition to the ceremony taking place in front of it, many couples choose to do their friends and family portraits there as well. We are seeing many deconstructed, asymmetrical arches as the focal point of the wedding ceremony. A deconstructed arch is a floral decor piece that frames the couple when they are standing at the altar, consisting of two asymmetrical floral/greenery pieces that “grow” from the floor and don’t connect at the top. This creates a more organic, artistic look than your run-of-the-mill ceremony arch. Different colors and textures can be used throughout in making deconstructed arches - and they can easily be repurposed in the reception as well. They make a great backdrop for the couple at their sweetheart or head table. We love this option because of its inherently artistic and eye-catching nature.

2) Disco balls. What’s groovy, glittery, and makes any space super glam? Ok, we already said it - disco balls! Disco balls are not just a trend from the disco era of the ‘70s, but they’ve been totally in for the past few years as well. They are not only amazing eye candy when hung from the ceiling, but they look really cool when set on the floor and on table tops as well. We also love it when couples use them as a photo prop in their wedding portraits; they create the best effect when hit by direct sunlight. Disco balls add so much character and light glitter to the space. We love that this trend has stuck around for a while. More disco balls in 2024 and beyond, please!

3) Pantone’s color of the year: peach! We’ve been seeing this soft, feminine color everywhere recently - used in weddings and beyond. This warm, cheerful color is especially great for spring and summer weddings, when the sun is shining bright. We love seeing it incorporated into elements like bridesmaid dress palettes, on wedding cakes, invitations, taper candles, and of course throughout wedding florals. Flowers that can be procured in this comforting pastel color are ranunculus, roses, carnations, gerbera daisies, icelandic poppies, and more. We’ve also seen some gorgeous peach wedding dresses - such a fun departure from your standard white wedding dress!

4) Less greenery, more florals. In our humble opinion, more flowers is always the better choice! Flowers enhance any wedding venue with eye-catching colors and textures. A common misconception couples have when planning their wedding is thinking that greenery is a lot cheaper than flowers. This is not necessarily the case: since demand has gone up, the pricing has gone up with it. Going for just greenery can be less expensive than florals if you’re planning on using it very sparingly, but that’s about it. Knowing this, most 2024 couples are opting in for the enchanting, colorful florals of all shapes and sizes. Using green garland down the center of the dinner table used to be a lot more popular, but now more are choosing to do bud vases or small/medium arrangements with varied blooms.

5) Mismatched bridesmaid dresses. Gone are the days when all bridesmaids are expected to wear the exact same dress, and thank goodness for that! The bride used to choose one dress that all their bridesmaids would wear, creating a very uniform look across the board. The problem with asking bridesmaids to wear identical dresses is that everyone’s complexion, body shape, and budgets are different. We love the “mismatched bridesmaid dress” trend because it allows bridesmaids to purchase (or rent) a dress they’ll actually enjoy wearing and may wear in the future. Not only is this good news for your friends/family, but for the planet too! Mismatched bridesmaid dresses create freedom of personal expression, and also a unique, eclectic look. We love when the group not only mixes different styles of dresses, but patterns and textures too. Some dresses can be silky satin, floral print, sequined, etc. We hope this trend sticks around for good!

6) Statement hanging floral pieces. There’s so much more that you can do with wedding florals than just your ceremony backdrop and dinner table centerpieces. Many couples are now opting for a dramatic hanging piece - over the ceremony space, and many times over the dance floor as well. So, how do we do it?: A wooden or metal pole is first wrapped in layers of chicken wire with greenery in between the layers. We call this a “burrito” - the layers provide a way for the stems to be securely held in place. Then, we hang the burrito low so we can stand on the ground while working on it as opposed to standing on ladders the whole time. Then when it’s finished, we pull it up using metal cables and handy dandy little clips that allow us to adjust the lengths.Greenery goes on first to create the shape and size we want. Then we insert the flowers for the pop of color. No water source is needed on most blooms. They can survive the evening out of water if it’s indoors and cool. These pieces look great in any space, but are especially awesome in a venue that has tall ceilings. This utilizes the tall ceiling space and adds height to the decor. We love how they look over the wedding aisle, dance floor, and/or reception space. Hanging floral pieces add a certain wow factor to the venue - a true conversation starter for guests!

7) Potted plants as wedding decor. As an eco-friendly event florist, we are always looking for creative ways to provide sustainable event decor. Using potted plants as wedding decor is one of our favorite green wedding decor methods, because these plants will last so much longer than cut flowers and stems. One of the best parts of this idea is that couples can encourage their guests to take them home - serving as a beautiful and eco-friendly wedding favor that will last months and maybe even years. We’ve used plants like orchids, monsteras, and pony tail palms in gold or terracotta pots as ceremony and reception decor. If you’re looking for more unique sustainable wedding ideas, we got you!

8) Intimate, Micro-Weddings. Many couples are deciding against having a huge bash in favor of a more intimate exchange of vows. We get it - for some folks, large weddings can be draining to plan and heavy on the wallet. So it’s no surprise to us that more couples are going for small wedding celebrations - with guest lists ranging from 2 - 50 people. Some benefits of having a micro wedding include having more freedom to select a unique venue, easier planning, less cost, increased quality time with those most special to you, and a lower environmental impact. We love working with couples who are having an intimate wedding and are opting for a more DIY approach to decor. We offer an “intimate wedding” option where couples may pick-up their florals from our Logan Square studio, and who are willing to set up and tear down themselves.

What trends are you excited about incorporating into your wedding day? One thing is for certain: 2024 is going to be full of impressive flowers, eclectic bridesmaid dresses, and groovy decor. If you’re interested in learning more about working together on your wedding flowers, contact us through our website. We are available for intimate weddings (which give you the option to pick flowers up from our Logan Square studio) as well as full service weddings (delivery, setup, and takedown included). We mostly service the city of Chicago, but are willing to travel to many nearby suburbs as well.

Boho-Chic Elegance: Pearl Jewelry Trends for Modern Brides with Distinctive Tastes

Wedding Pearls: top pearl jewelry trends for brides seeking a sophisticated, boho-chic look

Modern brides with a discerning eye for style and a solid budget are gravitating towards a harmonious blend of bohemian charm and timeless elegance. This approach allows brides to infuse their bridal ensemble with unique, free-spirited elements while still embracing the luxurious allure of pearls. Here are the top pearl jewelry trends that strike the perfect balance for brides seeking a sophisticated, boho-chic look.

1. Bohemian Opulence with Baroque Pearls

Baroque pearls, with their irregular shapes and organic allure, take center stage in creating a boho-chic yet opulent bridal look. Opt for a statement piece like a multi-strand baroque pearl necklace or a cascading pearl bracelet. These pieces not only exude a touch of carefree spirit but also showcase the opulence that comes with a solid budget.

2. Mix and Match with Modern Sophistication

Embrace the bohemian ethos by mixing and matching pearl varieties while maintaining an air of modern sophistication. Combine freshwater pearls with Akoya pearls, creating a dynamic and visually interesting ensemble. This eclectic mix adds depth to your jewelry while still exuding elegance, catering to brides who want a unique and personalized touch without compromising on refinement.

3. Artisanal Luxury

Elevate your bridal look with artisanal craftsmanship that exudes both luxury and bohemian charm. Seek out renowned jewelry designers who specialize in handcrafted pieces featuring pearls. These unique, artisanal creations often incorporate intricate details and innovative designs, ensuring that your bridal jewelry is a true work of art that complements your distinctive tastes.

4. Nature-Inspired Whimsy

For brides with a penchant for nature-inspired aesthetics, consider pearl jewelry adorned with whimsical motifs. Delicate floral patterns, leafy designs, or even subtle nods to the bohemian love for the outdoors can be incorporated into earrings, bracelets, or hair accessories. These nature-inspired elements add a touch of whimsy to your ensemble, perfectly aligning with the boho-chic theme.

5. Personalized Luxe

Take personalization to the next level by investing in custom-designed pearl jewelry. Work with a skilled jeweler to create bespoke pieces that reflect your individual style and capture the essence of bohemian luxury. Incorporate meaningful symbols, initials, or even gemstone accents for a one-of-a-kind bridal ensemble that transcends trends and becomes a cherished heirloom.

6. Vintage Boho Glamour

Channel the allure of vintage glamour with bohemian undertones by exploring antique pearl jewelry. Vintage pieces, carefully curated and restored, add a sense of history and mystique to your bridal look. Seek out vintage-inspired pearl tiaras, statement earrings, or layered necklaces that embody the perfect blend of boho-chic and timeless elegance.

7. Subtle Boho Pastels

For brides who want a hint of bohemian flair, consider incorporating subtle pastel hues into your pearl jewelry. Blush pinks, lavender, or soft blues can be elegantly integrated into your necklace, earrings, or bracelet, adding a touch of boho-chic without straying too far from the classic wedding color palette.

8. Bohemian Minimalism

Achieve a minimalist yet bohemian aesthetic with carefully selected, understated pearl jewelry. Delicate pearl drop earrings, a simple pearl pendant necklace, or a slim bracelet with subtle charms can offer a refined boho-chic look that complements your bridal attire without overwhelming it. The key is to strike the right balance between simplicity and sophistication.

9. Ethical Extravagance

For brides with both a budget and a conscience, choose ethically sourced and environmentally friendly pearl options. High-quality cultured pearls, obtained through sustainable practices, provide a guilt-free indulgence. This commitment to ethical choices adds an extra layer of richness to your bridal ensemble, aligning with the values of the modern, conscious bride.

10. Statement Simplicity

Make a bold statement with a touch of simplicity by opting for a single, striking pearl piece. A statement pearl collar necklace or oversized pearl drop earrings can become the focal point of your bridal look, exuding both modern elegance and bohemian confidence. Let the statement piece speak for itself, allowing you to express your individuality without overwhelming your entire ensemble.

In conclusion, modern brides with a solid budget can achieve a stunning and distinctive bridal look by embracing the harmonious fusion of bohemian charm and timeless elegance. Whether it's through baroque pearls, artisanal craftsmanship, or personalized touches, these trends cater to brides who desire a unique and luxurious bridal ensemble that reflects their individual style and celebrates the spirit of their special day.

How to Pick the Right DJ for Your Wedding and What Criteria to Base Your Choice On

How to Pick the Right DJ for Your Wedding and What Criteria to Base Your Choice On

I heard a bride ask a really intriguing question the other day at a wedding vendor event. She essentially said, “How do I actually pick a DJ? I mean, I can read reviews and even ask friends their opinions, but hearing that a specific DJ was so great and that they kept if fun and energetic the whole time is so subjective. My idea of fun will likely be different than the next person.” Solid point.

Choosing the right DJ for your wedding can make or break the atmosphere of your wedding day. With so many options available, it's essential to have a clear understanding of what you want and need in a DJ. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the best strategies for finding and vetting a DJ who will perfectly fit your wedding's vibe and ensure a memorable experience for you and your guests.

Understanding Your Needs:

Before diving into the search for a DJ, take some time to consider your specific needs and preferences. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What style of music do you envision for your wedding?

  • Do you prefer a DJ who specializes in a particular genre or is versatile enough to play a mix of music?

  • What level of interaction do you want from your DJ? Are you looking for someone who will just play music, or do you want them to also serve as an MC, interacting with guests and facilitating the flow of the event?

  • Are there any specific songs or artists that are must-haves or must-avoids for your playlist?

  • Do you have any specific requests or requirements regarding equipment, lighting, or special effects?

Once you have a clear understanding of your needs and preferences, you can start your search for the perfect DJ.

Research and Recommendations:

Start by asking for recommendations from friends, family, or other wedding vendors you trust. Personal recommendations can be invaluable in finding a DJ who has a proven track record of delivering exceptional service.

Additionally, use online resources such as wedding forums, social media groups, and review websites to research local DJs. Pay close attention to reviews and testimonials from past clients, but remember that one person's experience may not necessarily reflect the quality of service you will receive.

When reading reviews, look for common themes and pay attention to any specific praise or complaints regarding the DJ's performance, professionalism, and ability to read the crowd.

Interviewing Potential DJs:

Once you have a list of potential DJs, it's time to start reaching out and scheduling interviews. Treat these interviews as job interviews, as you'll want to ensure that the DJ you choose is not only talented but also professional and easy to work with.

During the interview, ask the following questions to get a better sense of the DJ's experience, style, and approach:

  • How long have you been DJing, and how many weddings have you performed at?

  • What sets you apart from other wedding DJs?

  • Can you provide references from past clients?

  • How do you handle song requests and do-not-play lists?

  • What is your approach to reading the crowd and keeping the energy up throughout the event?

  • How do you handle technical issues or equipment failures during the event?

  • Do you offer any additional services such as lighting, photo booths, or live musicians?

Pay attention to how the DJ responds to your questions and whether they demonstrate a genuine interest in understanding your vision for the wedding. Communication and rapport are key factors in ensuring a successful partnership with your DJ.

Reviewing Contracts and Pricing:

Before making a final decision, request a written contract from the DJ outlining the terms of service, including the date, time, and location of the event, as well as the agreed-upon fee and any additional services or equipment provided.

Carefully review the contract to ensure that all details are accurate and that both parties are in agreement on the terms. Pay attention to any clauses regarding cancellations, refunds, or additional fees for overtime or special requests.

When it comes to pricing, remember that quality comes at a cost. While it's important to stay within your budget, prioritize value over price when choosing a DJ for your wedding. A talented and experienced DJ who can deliver an unforgettable experience for you and your guests is worth investing in.

Checking References and Reviews:

Before making a final decision, be sure to follow up with the DJ's references to get a firsthand account of their experience working with the DJ. Ask specific questions about the DJ's performance, professionalism, and ability to adapt to last-minute changes or requests.

Additionally, revisit online reviews and testimonials to see if there are any new insights or feedback from recent clients. Pay attention to any recurring themes or patterns in the reviews, both positive and negative, and use this information to inform your decision.

Trust Your Instincts:

Ultimately, choosing the perfect DJ for your wedding is a personal decision that should align with your vision and preferences for the event. Trust your instincts and choose a DJ who not only meets your technical requirements but also resonates with you on a personal level.

If you feel confident in your choice and have established open communication and rapport with your DJ, you can rest assured that they will help create a memorable and unforgettable experience for you and your guests on your special day.

Hey DJ keep playing that song…Alllll Niggggght!!!

Finding the perfect DJ for your wedding may seem like a tough task, but with careful research, planning, and communication, you can find a DJ who will perfectly fit your needs and help create the atmosphere you envision for your special day. By understanding your needs, conducting thorough research, interviewing potential DJs, reviewing contracts and pricing, checking references and reviews, and trusting your instincts, you can confidently choose a DJ who will ensure a memorable and unforgettable experience for you and your guests.

  • Choosing Offbeat Locations

Take a detour from the well-trodden path of traditional wedding venues. Explore unconventional backdrops that resonate with your shared passions, interests, or even quirks. Abandoned warehouses, vibrant street art alleys, or secret gardens can add an innovative flair to your photos. Embrace the unconventional, and let your photos tell a tale of love that transcends the expected.

  • Fashioning Attire that Echoes Individuality

Consider ditching the cookie-cutter wedding attire and express your personality through fashion. Consider non-traditional colors, bold patterns, or even thematic ensembles that mirror your shared interests. Accessories can be a canvas for creativity – think unconventional headpieces, bespoke jewelry, or personalized elements that elevate your attire from traditional to extraordinary.

  • Unleashing the Art of Spontaneity in Poses

While traditional poses have their charm, infuse a dose of spontaneity into your photoshoot. Let laughter, stolen glances, and unrehearsed moments take center stage. Explore dynamic poses that express the energy and authenticity of your connection, creating images that tell a story rather than just capturing a moment in time. When we show you a pose as inspiration and you like it, don’t hold your breath. Look at the image, then do YOUR version of it. The inspiration picture is just that: inspiration. Find a way to do it that feels nice and then let the moment take you wherever it takes you. If you both start laughing, great! If you feel compelled to get a little closer and more intimate, fantastic. Get it? Go with the flow, this will give your photographer image upon image to work with and deliver you an amazing and inspired gallery.

  • Cultivating a Mindset of Fearless Expression

Break free from the confines of expectations and embrace fearless expression. Allow your love to radiate through unconventional gestures, daring expressions, and uninhibited interactions. Trust your photographer to capture the raw, unfiltered moments that define your relationship, creating images that resonate with authenticity and emotional depth.

  • This is just the beginning

Your wedding day is a canvas waiting to be painted with the strokes of uniqueness and creativity. By venturing beyond the conventional, embracing unconventional ideas, and collaborating with a photographer who shares your vision, you'll craft a wedding photoshoot that not only captures the essence of your love story but also stands as a testament to your bold and adventurous spirits. May your wedding album be a masterpiece, a visual chronicle of a day that defied expectations and celebrated the extraordinary love you share. A good photographer will shepard you through it all! 😃

The Ultimate Vendor Whisperer:

Your month-of coordinator is the VIP pass to the coolest party in town. They get cozy with your vendors, making sure everyone's on the same wavelength. No miscommunication, just good vibes and smooth sailing.

On the big day, your coordinator is the general of your vendor SWAT team. They handle deliveries, set up the chill zones, and ensure everyone's on point. You don't need to worry about a thing – your crew's got it covered.

Emergency Squad:

Every epic tale has its challenges, but your coordinator is your savior in a crisis. Whether it's a wardrobe malfunction or unexpected rain, they've got the plan B, C, and D to keep your day shining bright.

Time Is Your Biggest Commodity, Respect the Clock and Enjoy Your Return on Investment

Wedding planning can be a time suck, but your planner lets you reclaim those hours. Focus on the fun parts, let the experts handle the rest, and enjoy every moment leading up to your big day.

Your Creative BFF:

Beyond the contracts and timelines, your wedding planner becomes your creative BFF. They're invested in your vibe, making sure your wedding is as unique and cool as you are. It's not just a business transaction; it's a creative collaboration.

Should just I hire a “day of”, “month of” or the whole enchilada?

Any wedding planner who knows what they’re doing will be able to help you pinpoint which service(s) will actually help you and won;t sell you some crap that you don;t need just to make more $.

Conclusion:

So, lovebirds, as you gear up for the most epic day of your lives, remember: a wedding planner isn't just a luxury; it's your backstage pass to a stress-free, insanely cool celebration.
